Rescue teams in China are tirelessly searching for dozens of missing individuals following severe flash flooding and a bridge collapse caused by heavy rains. The catastrophic events have resulted in at least 25 fatalities.
In Sichuan province, flash floods devastated the village of Xinhua in Hanyuan county, claiming 10 lives and leaving 29 people unaccounted for. The surging waters from days of relentless rain destroyed 40 houses and severed crucial road links.
Meanwhile, in Shaanxi province, a highway bridge collapse late Friday caused vehicles to plunge into a foaming river, with 15 confirmed deaths. The tragedy has prompted renewed scrutiny over the integrity of China's infrastructure, especially in the wake of similar disasters. Experts warn that extreme weather conditions, exacerbated by climate change, could lead to more such incidents globally.
