In a tragic discovery, an adult lioness and her two cubs were found dead on the banks of the Kalindi river in Gujarat's Junagadh district, a senior forest official revealed on Thursday.

The bodies were located in Khorasa village in Malia Hatina taluka late Wednesday evening, according to the forest official.

"The carcass of the lioness was discovered on one side of the Kalindi river, while the two cubs, each around one year old, were found 50 meters apart on the opposite bank. The exact cause of death remains uncertain as the post-mortem, conducted 36 hours after the discovery, did not yield definitive results," explained Junagadh Wildlife Division Chief Conservator of Forests Aradhana Sahu to reporters.

She added that a comprehensive investigation is currently underway, with other evidence from the scene being scrutinized to uncover the cause of this unfortunate incident.
