SpaceX is preparing for the fourth flight test of its ambitious Starship spacecraft - a fully reusable transportation system designed to carry both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond.
This forthcoming test, scheduled to take place from SpaceX's launch facilities, seeks to demonstrate Starship's ability to endure the peak heating experienced during reentry, all while maintaining full operational functionality of its systems.
The test marks a pivotal step in the company's quest to build a fully reusable transportation system capable of carrying both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, help humanity return to the Moon, and ultimately travel to Mars and beyond.
"Getting ready for Flight 4 of Starship! Goal of this mission is for Starship to get through max reentry heating with all systems functioning, tweeted Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX.
The previous flight test, which took place on March 14, 2024, showcased Starship's capabilities in reaching high altitudes and executing controlled maneuvers in space. During the third flight test, Starship accomplished several major milestones and firsts including Super Heavy's first-ever landing burn, initiating a propellant transfer demonstration, Starship's first-ever entry from space and more.
