In a fiery exchange in Parliament, Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee accused Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of acting as a broker for affluent interests, while neglecting the needs of the poor. Banerjee alleged that the Union government has withheld central funds for West Bengal, specifically under schemes like MGNREGA and PMAYG, owing to political discrimination after the BJP's failure to secure a government in the state.

The BJP quickly countered, with Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary dismissing Banerjee's accusations and demanding an apology for his 'derogatory' language. Choudhary reiterated the Modi government's commitment to equitable development across states, saying no discrimination exists, and pending funds would soon be released.

The tension underscores longstanding concerns regarding the allocation of central funds, particularly as opposition MPs continue to protest delays. Chouhan assured that all pending MGNREGA dues will be addressed, emphasizing increased funding and development efforts in West Bengal under the NDA compared to previous administrations.
