In a heated exchange, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee lashed out at Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chouhan over the alleged withholding of Central funds meant for West Bengal. Banerjee asserted the state is being rightfully denied its due share of funds, heightening regional and political tensions.
Criticism further escalated as Banerjee accused Chouhan of scheming against West Bengal's populace, asserting he favors the wealthy over aiding the poor. This accusation was part of a wider protest by TMC MPs in the Parliament, where they slammed the government for withholding funds crucial for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA), essential for rural employment in Bengal.
Joining the protest, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi showed solidarity with the TMC's cause, as additional protests sprouted from opposition MPs in Kerala. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and MP KC Venugopal called out the government's failure to ensure timely MNREGA payments and accused it of phasing out essential wage schemes. Venugopal highlighted the plight of unpaid workers, pressing the government for accountability and action.
