Jairam Ramesh, the Congress's chief whip in the Rajya Sabha, issued breach of privilege notices on Monday against J P Nadda and Kiren Rijiju. The notices accuse the leaders of presenting misleading statements regarding Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, D K Shivakumar, allegedly affecting the Congress's reputation and policy commitments.
Filed under Rule 188, these notices challenge the statements made in the Rajya Sabha that supposedly falsely suggested the Congress aimed to modify reservations to benefit Muslims. Ramesh argued that such claims undermined the Congress's stance on preserving rights for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.
The notices seek privilege proceedings against both BJP leaders, highlighting concerns over the integrity of parliamentary discourse. Kiren Rijiju's remarks accused a senior Congress leader of intending constitutional changes for reservation purposes, hinting at Shivakumar, which further intensified the controversy.
