Tensions heightened in Puducherry's legislative assembly as opposition members from DMK and Congress walked out, protesting inadequate relief measures for those impacted by last December's cyclone.
During a discussion on the Lt Governor's address, DMK floor leader R Siva accused the territorial government of failing to support displaced residents, particularly in rural areas, and highlighted the absence of proper enumeration and relief distribution.
Public Works and Revenue Minister K Lakshminarayanan countered these allegations, claiming comprehensive efforts were made to alleviate the people's distress. However, opposition members pointed out that the central government sanctioned only Rs 61 crores against a demand of over Rs 614 crores, calling the funds insufficient.
