In response to the recent unseasonal rains that have devastated crops, former Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik conducted a field visit to Ganjam district to firsthand assess the damage and advocate for swift compensation for farmers. During his visit, Patnaik interacted with farmers in areas like Seragada, Aska, and Hinjili, learning of their plight and the absence of any prior rain advisory.
Patnaik stressed that the unseasonal rain has significantly impacted the livelihoods of farmers, whom he described as the backbone of the economy. He called upon the state government to expedite compensation processes, citing it as essential and aligned with past practices during his administration. The BJD leader also released videos of his engagements with the farmers.
The Opposition leader's office has announced further visits to districts affected by similar climatic adversities, including Puri and Cuttack. Meanwhile, political discourse ensues as both ruling and opposing parties exchange blame, with BJD figures arguing BJP officials are reacting defensively to Patnaik's proactive stance.
