The Bombay High Court has officially discontinued its oversight of the investigation into the 2015 murder of communist leader and rationalist writer Govind Pansare. The court instructed the Kolhapur sessions court to expedite the ongoing trial, emphasizing it should be conducted on a daily basis.
According to a division bench of Justices A S Gadkari and Kamal Khata, the Anti-Terrorism Squad's recent report indicates that all investigative angles have been covered, leaving only the arrest of two absconding accused. The bench declared continuous high court monitoring unnecessary, citing Article 226 of the Constitution of India.
Govind Pansare was attacked along with his wife in February 2015, leading to his death five days later. The Maharashtra Police's investigation, initially led by the SIT and later by the ATS, had been under high court supervision since 2016. The session court is directed to continue the trial with urgency, particularly in light of connections to other prominent murder cases.
