The Congress has launched a scathing attack on the Mahayuti government over its inadequate soyabean procurement in Maharashtra, highlighting a stark contrast with efforts in Telangana. According to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, Maharashtra has only managed to purchase 3,888 metric tonnes of soyabean, a mere fraction compared to the almost 25,000 metric tonnes procured by Congress-governed Telangana.
Ramesh criticized the state's procurement targets, emphasizing that Maharashtra's procurement period, the shortest in the country, is close to ending. The procurement numbers, only 0.3% of the sanctioned amount, highlight negligence towards farmer welfare, he asserted. Contrastingly, Telangana is nearing half its procurement goal, demonstrating its commitment to farmers.
Amid the election campaign for Maharashtra's upcoming polls, Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, have been vocal about the state's farming crisis. Gandhi assured soyabean and cotton farmers that the INDIA bloc will address their grievances if victorious, promising to secure legal status for Minimum Support Price (MSP) as per the Swaminathan Commission Formula.
