In a dramatic move just before Jharkhand's elections, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at 17 locations in Jharkhand and West Bengal. The action aimed to investigate a money-laundering case linked to alleged Bangladeshi infiltration, resulting in the recovery of fake Aadhaar cards, forged passports, and other illegal materials.
The raids sparked political controversy, with the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) accusing the BJP-led central government of using the federal agency's actions to influence the elections. Conversely, BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have criticized the JMM for purportedly supporting infiltrators for political gains.
The case, rooted in a Jharkhand Police FIR, accuses several people of facilitating the infiltration and trafficking of Bangladeshi nationals into Jharkhand. The Enforcement Directorate is expanding its investigation to encompass a broader scope of illegal immigration into the region.
