The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the Election Commission on Monday to file an FIR against Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. The BJP accuses the Congress of spreading "malicious and slanderous" falsehoods during the recent election campaign in Maharashtra, allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
In a memorandum to the poll panel, the BJP claimed that Gandhi's remarks during a Mumbai campaign event on November 6 spread disaffection by alleging industrial projects moved from Maharashtra to Gujarat. The party also contends that his comments about the RSS and BJP undermined national unity by falsely suggesting political bias in university appointments.
According to Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, the BJP called on the Election Commission to reprimand Gandhi and Kharge, arguing that Gandhi's statements incite regional conflict. The memorandum highlights Maharashtra's success in securing Foreign Direct Investment as evidence against these allegations and demands action under specific laws.
