In the heart of India's capital, Delhi's political landscape is poised for a pivotal mayoral election, as the city prepares for a new, albeit brief, leadership term. A Dalit candidate will lead for only five months, a shortened tenure due to ongoing political discord.

The prolonged mayoral elections, now scheduled for November 14, were delayed following a seven-month impasse between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This standoff had caused significant disruptions in the functioning of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Both parties have intensified their campaigns, with AAP nominating Mahesh Khichi and Ravinder Bhardwaj for the mayoral and deputy mayor positions, respectively. The BJP counters by fielding Kishan Lal and Nita Bisht. Despite the political turbulence, the city's governance agenda pushes forward under the scrutiny of the electorate.
