The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is poised to increase parking charges in an ambitious move aimed at reducing the use of private vehicles and limiting air pollution, officials revealed this Monday. The adjustment is set to double the current rates under the city's Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-II.
This proposal, pivotal to pollution control efforts, will be presented at the upcoming MCD House meeting scheduled for November 14, which also marks the election day for Delhi's mayor and deputy mayor. Initially proposing a fourfold hike, the MCD has revised the figure to a twofold increase following extensive deliberations.
Despite other agencies, like the New Delhi Municipal Council already enforcing similar directives, the MCD awaits the proposal's approval before implementation. If disruptions occur during the meeting, often a prospect during election periods, the proposal could encounter further delays. The measure aligns with existing Stage II GRAP restrictions to enhance public transportation use and reduce pollution.
