In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, a 22-year-old man named Deepak Chauhan received a life sentence for his involvement in a brutal crime. Chauhan and two minor accomplices entered a woman's home, threatening her at knifepoint.
They stole Rs 50,000, mobile phones, and other valuables before gang-raping the 37-year-old victim on May 14, 2021. Just prior to this traumatic event, the woman had been recovering from COVID-19.
The trial, presided over by Additional Sessions Judge Jaideep Singh, saw Chauhan convicted under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code. Additional Public Prosecutor Latika Jamra presented 14 witnesses, securing Chauhan's conviction. The minors' trial continues in Juvenile Court.
