The fierce contest for the Budhni and Vijaypur assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh concluded as campaigning for the bypolls ceased on Monday at 6pm. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress spared no effort to clinch these crucial seats.

The bypolls sprang from political transitions, with Congress MLA Ramniwas Rawat's defection to the BJP, and former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's elevation to the Union agriculture minister role, necessitating elections for their respective seats. In Budhni, the BJP's Ramakant Bhargava clashes against Congress' Rajkumar Patel, while in Vijaypur, party-turncoat Rawat faces off against Congress' Mukesh Malhotra.

Campaign promises flew thick and fast, with BJP pledging development in the regions, highlighted by a proposed increase in financial assistance under its 'Ladli Bahna Yojana'. Conversely, Congress leaders accused the BJP of corruption and failing citizens post-elections. Both parties tailored strategies to appeal to the region's social demography, underscoring Madhya Pradesh's political landscape's intricate dynamics.
