In a recent political development, Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the monthly financial assistance for eligible women under the Ladli Bahna Yojana would incrementally rise to Rs 5,000. Currently, the state government deposits Rs 1,250 monthly into beneficiaries' bank accounts.
The Congress party has sharply criticized Yadav's announcement, labeling it corrupt and a violation of the election model code for the forthcoming bypolls in two assembly seats. Yadav countered these accusations at a Budhni rally, urging voters to consider past Congress practices.
The Ladli Bahna Yojana, initiated before last year's assembly elections, has been embroiled in controversy. Vivek Tankha, Congress Rajya Sabha member, called the CM's latest promise a blatant breach of election laws, sparking a political tug-of-war ahead of the by-elections.
