A Russian airstrike wreaked havoc on residential and energy installations in Odesa, Ukraine, on Thursday evening. This attack left one person dead, eight injured, and caused the temporary shutdown of a crucial boiler plant used for heating, officials reported.
The strike severely damaged a multi-storey residential building in the center of Odesa, setting apartments on fire and affecting approximately 30 cars, as reported by Oleh Kiper, the Odesa Regional Governor. The central heating pipeline suffered damage, and repair efforts are currently underway.
The heating infrastructure for a maternity hospital in the city was also impacted, Kiper noted. While Kiper initially blamed drones for the attack, Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov later called it a 'mass combined enemy strike,' suggesting the use of multiple types of weaponry. Odesa remains a key target as the ongoing conflict continues to rage in the region.
