In a heated exchange, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, cautioned the Congress government against reneging on the Shakti scheme, which offers free bus services to women. The BJP leader stressed that the citizens would hold the government accountable if it failed to deliver on its electoral promise.
His comments came after Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge urged state units to align electoral guarantees with budgetary capabilities. Kharge emphasized fiscal responsibility, warning that unrealistic promises could create financial burdens, detrimentally affecting future generations and potentially damaging the party's credibility.
Kharge advised Maharashtra leaders against excessive promises, painting a dire picture of financial instability leading to public discontent. Meanwhile, Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy reassured constituents of the Shakti scheme's continuity, echoed by Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who touted it as a model for nationwide replication.
