Diplomatic Tensions Skyrocket: Venezuela Recalls Ambassador from Brazil
Venezuela has recalled its ambassador to Brazil over what it claims are 'rude statements' from the Brazilian government. The situation escalated after controversial comments by Brazilian policy adviser Celso Amorim, amid tensions following Venezuela's disputed presidential election and issues surrounding the BRICS group entry.
Venezuela has ramped up diplomatic tensions by recalling its ambassador from Brazil, citing repeated 'interventionist and rude statements' from Brasilia. Additionally, Venezuela called Brazil's business envoy for discussions, highlighting growing discord between the two nations.
The latest escalation was sparked by remarks from Celso Amorim, a top foreign policy adviser to the Brazilian president. Venezuela's foreign ministry accused Amorim of acting in line with North American interests and interfering in Venezuelan affairs. In response, Venezuela's parliamentary leader, Jorge Rodriguez, proposed lawmakers vote to declare Amorim persona non grata.
Tensions intensified following Venezuela's presidential election, with the Brazilian president joining global calls for transparency in election results. Relations recently soured further when Brazil vetoed Venezuela's attempt to join the BRICS economic group, as at least 600,000 Venezuelans have migrated to Brazil amid complex economic ties.
