In a significant move on Wednesday, five candidates withdrew their nominations, narrowing the field to 90 for the upcoming bypolls on November 13 in Uttar Pradesh's nine assembly seats, as per an official notification.
The withdrawals included Independent candidates Jaiveer Singh and Brijanand from Kundarki, and Shah Mohammed Rana from Meerapur. Sishamau's nominee, Mohd Aftab Sharif from Rashtrawadi Jantantrik Party, and Katehari candidate Krishnawati from Rashtriya Bhagidari Party also stepped down.
The bypolls are crucial due to vacancies from elected MPs and legal disqualifications. Voters from constituencies like Meerapur, Ghaziabad, and others will decide their representatives, with results expected on November 23. The ruling BJP has named candidates for eight seats, collaborating with ally RLD for the remaining seat, as Congress backs SP and INDIA bloc candidates.
