In the battleground of Gujarat's Vav constituency, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress have unveiled their candidates for the forthcoming bypoll. Gulabsinh Rajput will contest for Congress, whereas Swaroopji Thakor has been selected as the BJP candidate for the election scheduled on November 13.
The seat, previously held by the Congress for two terms, became vacant when former MLA Geniben Thakor resigned after winning the Lok Sabha elections from Banaskantha. This has set the stage for a fresh electoral contest between the major political players in the state.
The Congress is backed by its INDIA bloc partner, AAP, which has decided not to field a candidate, thus demonstrating solidarity. The election results, crucial for determining the power dynamics in the 182-seat assembly, will be declared on November 23.
