The Kerala police have initiated a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the suicide of ex-Kannur Additional District Magistrate Naveen Babu, a case that has ignited significant political debate in the state.
Allegations from the opposition Congress-led UDF suggest that the ruling party may have protected individuals involved in Babu's death. The SIT, headed by Ajit Kumar, the District Police Chief of Kannur City, will conduct the investigation under the watchful eye of the DIG, Kannur Range, as per directives from the Inspector General of Police.
The SIT includes senior officers from various police units in Kannur. This move comes shortly after CPI(M) leader P P Divya suggested corruption links involving Babu, leading to tensions and Divya's removal from a prominent party position following Babu's death.
