The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has nominated Nikhil Kumaraswamy as their candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Channapatna Assembly constituency. This decision has been defended by R Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka, as tensions rise over candidate selection.
Ashoka stated that Congress party members are discontented with their candidate, CP Yogeshwara, who recently defected from the BJP. He emphasized that the NDA's decision to field Nikhil, a Janata Dal (Secular) figurehead, was a strategic and sound move, adding that the Congress's internal strife would lead to voter support for the NDA.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced the bid, reflecting the NDA's confidence in securing victory in all three constituencies up for grabs in the by-elections. Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, along with party workers, endorsed Nikhil Kumaraswamy's candidacy, emphasizing party unity and support. Voting will commence on November 13, with results due on November 23, 2023.
