In a strategic political move, the National Democratic Alliance has fielded Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, as its candidate for the upcoming Channapatna by-poll. Kumaraswamy, who leads the JD(S) State Youth Unit, will challenge CP Yogeshwara, a recent Congress convert, in this pivotal election contest.
The seat was vacated following HD Kumaraswamy's victory in the Mandya parliamentary segment. Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced the candidacy, expressing optimism that the alliance would triumph across all three by-poll seats. He underscored the decision was backed by party leaders' enthusiasm and grassroots support.
Union Minister Kumaraswamy endorsed the choice, noting party workers motivated the decision. Nikhil Kumaraswamy expressed gratitude for the opportunity, citing confidence in local support. Concurrently, Congress candidate Yogeshwara, supported by top state leaders, filed his nomination, marking a significant by-poll showdown.
