Karnataka's political landscape is set for a stirring by-election as the Congress party names CP Yogeshwara its candidate for the Channapatna by-poll. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar asserted that the decision to field Yogeshwara, former BJP leader and five-time MLA, faced no internal dissent, moving strategically in the party's best interest.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar were present during the nomination filing, underscoring unified leadership. While some initially preferred DK Suresh for the role, party members have coalesced around Yogeshwara, acknowledging his experience and leadership potential.
The by-poll campaign is a direct contest against NDA-backed candidates, heating up the rivalry between Vokkaliga leaders Shivakumar and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, following the former's successful Lok Sabha bid. The electoral process follows a broader schedule, alongside Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections, with results expected on November 23.
