Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of tampering with voter lists in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Patole claimed this move undermines democratic processes, driven by the BJP's fear of electoral defeat. He urged the Election Commission to uphold its independence from central government influence.
Addressing seat sharing dynamics, Patole mentioned that Congress will engage with its alliance leaders and release the candidature list shortly. A Central Election Committee meeting is scheduled today to finalize discussions related to seat distribution for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat confirmed ongoing candidate screenings, while election in-charge Ramesh Chennithala assured unity among the Maha Vikas Aghadi allies, stating that any seat disputes will be settled imminently. With Maharashtra set to vote on November 20, previous election outcomes saw the BJP and Shiv Sena with significant wins.
