Taiwan's Strategic Presence at APEC: Lin Hsin-i Represents Amid Tensions

Taiwan's government has named Lin Hsin-i, a senior presidential advisor, as its representative for the upcoming APEC summit in Peru. This event marks one of the rare platforms where both Taiwan and China, which does not recognize Taiwan's sovereignty, participate.

Lin, who heads the government-backed Taiwania Capital and has served as an economy minister, is well-versed in APEC's operations. Known for his brief interactions with former Chinese President Hu Jintao in 2005, Lin's presence aims to underscore Taiwan's diplomatic stance.

This year's summit in Lima, scheduled for November 15, follows China's military exercises around Taiwan. The Taiwanese government continues to refute Beijing's territorial claims, advocating for self-determination by the island's inhabitants.
