In a significant political development, Prakash Behera, the former MLA from Salipur, announced his resignation from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday. Behera formally communicated his decision through a letter to the party president, Naveen Patnaik, stating the resignation came after considerable deliberation.

Behera had participated in the previous elections representing the Barabati-Cuttack constituency on a BJD ticket, though he failed to secure the seat. His political journey reflects prior stints with the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), where he had shifted allegiances before returning to the BJD ahead of the 2024 elections.

Despite his resignation, Behera has assured the public that his departure from the BJD does not mark his exit from politics entirely. He emphasized his commitment to public service and hinted at future plans, albeit without confirming affiliation with any particular party. This move comes as a setback for the BJD, coinciding with the launch of their membership drive on October 9.
