Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a diplomatic journey to Laos on Thursday, aiming to enhance India's relationships with ASEAN nations during a two-day visit for the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits.
Marking a decade since India introduced its Act East policy, Modi expressed optimism about the visit's potential to fortify engagement and partnership with ASEAN countries. His agenda includes reviewing the current strategic partnerships and discussing future cooperation directions with ASEAN leaders.
The summits will also address critical issues affecting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. Modi emphasized India's cultural and historical connection with Laos and looked forward to further bilateral discussions with Lao PDR's leadership. The visit occurs upon the invitation of Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.
