Trump Vows Tax Relief for Americans Abroad Amid Tight Election Race
Republican candidate Donald Trump pledges tax cuts for Americans overseas, aiming to attract voters ahead of a neck-and-neck battle with Vice President Kamala Harris. Both candidates propose economic benefits, with Trump focusing on overseas tax relief and Harris on middle-class tax cuts.
As the November election approaches, Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has unveiled plans to reduce taxes for U.S. citizens living abroad. This move seeks to capture voters' attention in a close race with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.
Both Trump and Harris are offering economic incentives to win over voters. Harris has proposed middle-class tax cuts, whereas Trump emphasizes reducing taxes on overtime pay and ending taxes on tips. Trump reaffirmed his commitment to eliminating double taxation for Americans overseas, although details are yet to emerge.
Currently, Americans abroad are subject to U.S. tax obligations similar to those living domestically, with certain reliefs available. Approximately 4.4 million U.S. citizens reside internationally, with 2.8 million eligible voters, as reported in 2022 by the Federal Voting Assistance Program.
