R Sreelekha, the pioneering former DGP of Kerala and the first woman IPS officer in the state's cadre, has made headlines by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday. The induction took place at her residence where BJP state president K Surendran and district president V V Rajesh facilitated her membership.
Sreelekha's entry into the BJP has been hailed by party leadership, with Surendran expressing optimism over the retired officer's potential contributions. 'The BJP stands to gain immensely from Sreelekha's untainted and commendable record in public service,' he remarked. He also noted the increasing trend of distinguished figures aligning with the party, signifying a shift in public perception.
Influenced by the dedication of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sreelekha stressed her intent to serve the populace ardently, without contemplating any official role in the party. Despite having taken an apolitical stance during her tenure in the police force, she now embraces BJP's ideology as a framework for community service.
