Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operations head Shahriar Nafees has assured that Shakib Al Hasan, one of Bangladesh's most celebrated all-rounders, won't face any unfair harassment upon his return to the country. This assurance comes amid political turmoil following the fall of the Awami League government.
Shakib, who was involved in a high-profile murder case last month, was playing in the Global T20 League in Canada during the upheaval. Subsequently, he participated in a two-match Test series in Pakistan, followed by Bangladesh's ongoing tour of India.
Echoing confidence in the interim government's stance, Nafees stated that unless Shakib faces injury or selection issues, there should be no obstacle to him playing in Bangladesh. Law adviser Asif Nazrul also shared optimism that Shakib would not be arrested. Shakib is set to feature in the second Test against India in Kanpur on Friday.
