Omar Abdullah is poised to become the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, declared by his father, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, on Tuesday. The announcement comes as the National Conference, alongside its ally Congress, appears set to form the government in this strategically important union territory.
Farooq Abdullah made clear that Omar Abdullah would spearhead the alliance and reiterated that the election results reflected strong public dissent against the abrogation of Article 370, a pivotal legislative change made in August 2019.
The veteran politician underscored the necessity for the new government to tackle pressing challenges such as unemployment, inflation, and the drug crisis, committing to a future guided by elected officials rather than appointed advisors.
