In a defining moment for the National Conference (NC), youth president Salman Ali Sagar celebrated his first victory in the assembly elections on Tuesday. Sagar triumphed over People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asiea Naqash with an impressive margin exceeding 10,000 votes in the Hazratbal constituency in Jammu and Kashmir.

Having been a pivotal figure in rallying support for the NC following the abrogation of article 370 in 2019, Sagar's electoral success underscores his political influence. He garnered 18,890 votes compared to Naqash's 8,595. Naqash is known as a close confidant of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti.

The election results also saw a significant impact on other candidates, as ten out of thirteen, including the Awami Ittehad Party's Mohammad Maqbool Beigh, lost their security deposits after failing to secure even 1,000 votes.
