External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday met Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss avenues for deepening cooperation and strengthening India-Sri Lanka ties. Jaishankar assured Dissanayake of India's continued support for Sri Lanka's economic rebuilding efforts.
Jaishankar's visit comes less than two weeks after Dissanayake’s swearing-in as president. During his visit, Jaishankar also met Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, reaffirming India's commitment to the bilateral partnership and regional cooperation.
Sri Lanka, an important maritime neighbor in the Indian Ocean Region, holds a significant position in India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy and the 'SAGAR' initiative. Jaishankar's visit underlines the commitment to strengthen India-Sri Lanka relations further, benefiting both nations and the region.
