In a startling incident at Uppunda, Udupi district, over one thousand residents experienced illness due to contaminated water from a local overhead tank, according to Health Department officials.
The affected individuals exhibited symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Health authorities confirmed the presence of salmonella bacteria in the water supply affecting Karki Kalli and Madikal wards.
Villagers, dissatisfied with maintenance, called for an investigation, as officials suspected the contamination resulted from prior muddy water supply. Water supply has since been halted pending further inquiry.
