The Election Commission has enforced strict regulations on the airing of exit poll results for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election, scheduled for its final phase on Tuesday. Exit polls may only be broadcasted after 6 pm on October 5.
As per the guidelines issued by the EC on August 31 and under section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, the restriction is applicable across all media platforms, including newspapers, television, radio, and online portals. Violations may lead to fines or imprisonment, according to a statement from the office of the chief electoral officer released on Monday.
Authorities, including the CEO, district election officers, returning officers, and law enforcement agencies, will monitor compliance to maintain a fair electoral process. All parties and individuals involved in election activities are urged to adhere to these instructions. Vote counting is set for October 8.
