Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Santosh Jha on Sunday called on president-elect Anura Kumara Dissanayake to congratulate him on winning the presidential election.
'Santosh Jha called on president-elect @anuradisanayake. Conveyed greetings from India's leadership and congratulated him on winning the people's mandate. India as Sri Lanka's civilisational twin is committed to further deepen ties for the prosperity of the people of our two countries,' stated the Indian High Commission in a post on X.
Dissanayake, the leader of the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna party, was declared the winner after a second round of vote counting. Facing immediate economic reform challenges, Dissanayake defeated Sajith Premadasa from Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
