Rahul Gandhi, a leading figure in Congress, sparked controversy on Saturday by defending his remarks about Sikhs and other Indian communities during a visit to the United States. BJP leader Shezad Poonawalla accused Gandhi of 'brazenly' justifying his statements instead of apologizing, despite the Sikh community expressing outrage.

Poonawalla also alleged that Gandhi's support comes from prohibited groups like 'seek for justice,' and criticized Gandhi for not condemning such associations. He claimed this strategy aims to instigate divisions within Indian society.

Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur joined the criticism, alleging that Gandhi's rhetoric aligned with anti-India forces. He accused Gandhi of using similar language to Pakistan's Defense Minister and engaging with groups opposed to India's unity when traveling abroad.

Responding to the criticisms, Rahul Gandhi defended his stance and accused the BJP of lying and trying to suppress him. He emphasized his commitment to the values of unity, diversity, equality, and love that represent India. He asked if there was anything wrong with advocating for the right of every Sikh and Indian to practice their religion freely.

The war of words intensified as Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu labeled Gandhi as the 'country's number one terrorist,' a remark that drew sharp condemnation from Congress leaders. They announced legal action against those threatening Gandhi and stressed the importance of holding such individuals accountable.

As the political spat continues, BJP leaders remain vehement in their criticism of Gandhi's remarks during his US visit earlier this month. (ANI)
