The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to announce the new leader who will succeed Arvind Kejriwal as Delhi's chief minister at 12 pm on Tuesday, following a legislative party meeting, the party confirmed.
The meeting of party MLAs began at Kejriwal's residence at around 11.20 am, with AAP national general secretary Sandeep Pathak addressing the attendees, according to sources.
''The name of the new CM will be revealed today at noon, following the legislative party meeting,'' a party official stated.
The Delhi Assembly will convene on September 26 and 27, the party added. Earlier, Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj dismissed speculations about Sunita Kejriwal replacing her husband.
''From my understanding of Arvind Kejriwal's politics, he wouldn't do that. Moreover, Sunita ji herself is not interested,'' he told reporters.
On Sunday, Kejriwal announced his decision to resign from his post, stating he would only reclaim the position when awarded a ''certificate of honesty'' by the people.
