Senior aides to South Korea's impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol tendered their mass resignation on Wednesday, intensifying political tensions. This move follows acting President Choi Sang-mok's decision to appoint two new judges to the Constitutional Court, which will determine Yoon's future.

Yoon's team, comprising his chief of staff, policy chief, national security advisor, and other top secretaries, expressed their intent to step down amid Yoon's controversial decisions, notably his attempt to declare martial law. However, these resignations have yet to be accepted by the administration, said an anonymous official due to the delicate political climate.

While the aides assist acting President Choi, they are not involved in daily government functions. The latest resignation offer coincides with Choi's unexpected approval to appoint justices, raising the court's total to eight members, where six votes are necessary for any ruling regarding Yoon, causing critiques from Yoon's ruling People Power Party.
