U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai appointed Jamila Thompson as her new chief of staff on Thursday, aiming to sustain a robust trade agenda in the final months of President Joe Biden's term.
Thompson, a veteran former congressional aide, had been serving in the role in an acting capacity since January. Her appointment comes during a period of significant personnel changes in Tai's office, including the departures of former chief of staff Heather Hurlburt and Deputy USTRs Sarah Bianchi and Jayme White.
Thompson brings over 20 years of congressional management experience, notably serving as chief of staff to the late U.S. Representative John Lewis. Her extensive background will be instrumental as the USTR continues negotiations for a trade agreement with Kenya and other international trade partnerships.
