Omar Abdullah, vice-president of the National Conference, has pledged to bring back the legislative council in Jammu and Kashmir once the region regains its statehood. This announcement came during his campaign in Doda district for the upcoming assembly elections.

In his address, Abdullah urged the electorate to voice their dissatisfaction with New Delhi's rule by casting votes against it. He underlined the necessity of restoring the legislative council, which was dissolved in 2019 when Jammu and Kashmir were reorganized into Union territories.

Criticizing the ruling BJP, Abdullah accused them of causing turmoil and underdevelopment in the region since the abrogation of Article 370. He also addressed allegations from the Awami Ittehad Party, defended his stance on secessionist claims, and promised 200 units of free electricity if elected.
