Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya dissolved the state assembly on Thursday, averting what could have been a constitutional crisis. The Congress party alleges that the session was not convened deliberately to conceal the BJP's lack of majority.
The move follows the Haryana Cabinet's recommendation, a day after it suggested dissolving the assembly to avoid summoning the House before the six-month expiry from the last session, which took place on March 13.
Elections have now been announced in Haryana, with voting set for October 5 and results expected by October 8. This dissolution leaves Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini operating as a caretaker until a new government is formed.
