Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Thursday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Sikhs, alleging that it was former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who was responsible for massacring Sikhs.
During the BJP's membership drive, Kumar told mediapersons that neither the Congress Party nor Rahul Gandhi holds the moral authority to discuss the Sikh community. He emphasized that the Indian society views Sikhs like Sardar Bhagat Singh and Chatrapathi Shivaji as warriors of Dharma.
Rahul Gandhi, speaking to Indian Americans in Washington DC, had accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of considering some religions, languages, and communities as inferior. He argued that the real fight in India pertains to whether Sikhs can freely practice their traditions. Gandhi's comments, including dubbing the Indian National Congress as the ''Italian National Congress,'' were met with severe backlash from Kumar, who alleged that separatist and terrorist organizations are backing Gandhi. Kumar further asserted that a Congress victory would lead to national division and questioned their stance on Article 370.
