Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan next month. This proposal surfaced during a meeting between Putin and India's National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, in St Petersburg on Thursday.
The Putin-Doval meeting occurred weeks after Modi's visit to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, where he held talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Doval is attending a national security advisors' conclave of BRICS nations, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
The BRICS summit is slated for October 22-24 in Kazan, with Modi expected to attend. Putin stressed the importance of security issues in the Russia-India bilateral relations and proposed the meeting to summarize joint work and outline future prospects following Modi's visit to Moscow in July.
