Congress has sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly neglecting the turmoil in Manipur, accusing him of allowing the state to descend into chaos while he travels abroad. According to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, democracy and the rule of law have completely collapsed in the region.
Ramesh pointed out that Modi had promised to achieve in 15 months what previous governments couldn't in 15 years. However, within 15 months of receiving a decisive mandate, the state has been torn apart by violence. He shared a video of Modi speaking at a rally and questioned his priorities.
The situation in Manipur remains dire, with internet services suspended and curfews imposed due to ongoing clashes between the Meitei and Kukis communities. Over 200 people have died, and thousands have been displaced since the violence began in May 2023.
