On Tuesday, Goa's Leader of Opposition, Yuri Alemao, harshly criticized the Pramod Sawant-led BJP government for recently borrowing Rs 300 crore. Alemao asserted that Chief Minister Sawant has failed to curb loan dependency.

In a media statement, Alemao noted that despite Sawant's claims of revenue-generating plans, borrowing has continued unabated. He accused the government of neglecting the state's fiscal health and future.

Alemao further alleged that the Chief Minister's promises of financial management and planning were merely tactics to mislead the public, underscoring the recent loan as evidence of Sawant's lack of concrete plans for revenue generation and economic independence.

Citing Goa's rising debt levels, Alemao pointed out the state's debt progression: Rs 16,894 crore in 2019-20, Rs 20,729 crore in 2020-21, Rs 23,271 crore in 2021-22, and Rs 24,619 crore in 2022-23. He argued that despite Sawant's assurances, the state remains far from achieving financial self-reliance.
