Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the multilateral aerial exercise 'Tarang Shakti 2024' on Thursday, underscoring the rapid progress of the Indian Air Force and defence sector towards self-reliance. He emphasized India's advancements in manufacturing weapons, platforms, and aircraft indigenously.

Addressing senior defence officers from participating countries, Singh stated, "We are now largely self-sufficient in areas such as Light Combat Aircraft, Censors, Radars, and Electronic warfare, continually striving for further advancements." He noted India's evolution from an arms importer to a significant exporter, now supplying to around 90 countries.

'Tarang Shakti' is being conducted in two phases: the first in Sulur and the second in Jodhpur. Singh highlighted the benefits of such large-scale, complex exercises, emphasizing the mutual learning and exchange of air combat experiences among countries. He also lauded India's defence manufacturing collaborations, such as the joint venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and France's Safran Helicopter Engines, developing the high-power engine 'Safhal'.

Singh pointed out the strategic importance of exercises like 'Tarang Shakti', which foster international cooperation and trust. He also noted the broader economic impact of the Indian Air Force, including employment generation and the promotion of scientific temperament through its extensive supply chain.

The exercise 'Tarang Shakti 2024' also featured displays by the Indian Air Force's Surya Kiran aircraft and Tarang helicopters, showcasing India's aerial capabilities.
